Keep those pests at bay

The house is clean and swank. Living room sports best of the design and is equipped with the latest in the seating, the bedrooms have the costliest of beds and the kitchen comes with most advanced of the modular kitchen. The children’s room is colourful and the library has a collection of reading material that makes you feel proud. A perfect home, isn’t it?

But alas, it’s not so. Slowly chipping away and giving you uneasy times are the colonies of termites that threaten to spoil the best what you had put together to live. Unknown to you, the dark recess are inhabited by creatures that eat away your furniture, bit by bit and bite by bite. They relish the presence of timber at your home and as they feast, you find it hard to digest.

How to address the problem of the pest that has earned notoriety as most threatening one for a structure? It is a problem that needs immediate attention and if you are in the process of taking up construction, it is the right time to contact a professional pest control agency for what is offered as pre-construction treatment.

Using chemicals, they promise to ensure that termite infestation is checked at least for few years. And if you are buying a new flat, do make it a point to ask the builder if necessary treatments have been taken care of.

While getting furniture or for that matter any major work involving wood at home, be behind the carpenter and insist that the wood is treated with necessary termiticide before paint or varnish is applied.

However, some basic care at your end itself can help in putting hurdles in the path that termite colonies chose to march in. The first rule to remember is that since termites love moisture, ensure that the place is dry and well ventilated, particularly the kitchen and bath area. Once moisture is taken care of, it means the first round of the battle with termites is won.
