Comfort seating: With more and more people complaining of back aches, the best remedy is to settle down in a rocking chair. -

Relaxing at home can be such a bliss that most of us would either go to sleep or slump into our favourite couch with a bag of chips. But with more and more people complaining of back aches, the best remedy is to settle down on an easy chair or better, a rocking chair.

Most of us have the habit of slouching when ever we watch the television or sit and chat. In the long run, the spinal cord is affected because of bad seating positions. The remedy- an easy chair.

With designer chairs flooding furniture markets lately, there has been a substantial increase in the demand for comfort seating.

Most easy chairs aid in relieving tension and help relax because of laid back seating position offered by it. Therefore sinking into an easy chair makes it easier to surf channels, read a book or even strike a conversation without worrying about that back pain.

Some chairs come with leg supports that can be pulled out from underneath the easy chair, thereby supporting the whole body. One can choose from a variety of easy chair available in the market that range from Rs.3,000 onwards.

Another thing that has been around from the days of yore is the rocking chair. A more comfortable piece of furniture that will rock a tired person to sleep with it’s to and fro motion.

“Its good to sit on a rocking chair because it helps one to loosen up and unwind after a hard day’s work,” says Taran Raj, an Architect. Most rocking chairs available in the market cost from Rs.4,500 and go up to Rs.10, 000 depending on the quality of the wood used for making it. A sturdy rocking chair made of teak wood will cost about Rs.4,500 and can easily support a weight of 120 to 150 kgs.

Apart from the conventional designs, these chairs come with a ribbed plan that supports the spine and vital parts of the back. The arm rests’ on these chairs are fitted after testing seating positions of the chair to ensure total relaxation of the body and also keeps the back in right posture. “The main reason people buy these chairs is for relaxing at home. When we sit on the sofa, most of us do not sit in a proper posture. Some of the rocking chairs are designed in such a way that the back is aligned with the frame of the chair”, says M. Subrahmaniam, Manager of The Interior Park at Nampally.

Rocking chairs are also being made for toddlers but are smaller in size and cost about Rs.4,000.
