100 trainees enrol for a three-month course in construction work

National Academy of Construction (NAC), the premier city-based institute that impart training in various construction and design practices, these days is busy honing the skills of some trainees from abroad.The present batch has 100 South African trainees flying down to the city for picking up skills in different aspects of construction work.
They are here for duration of three months during which time, the academy faculty plans to equip the trainees with different modules.
The curriculum, which has more stress on practical learning, cover the five trades of electrical wiring, plumbing and sanitation, form work carpentry, painting, decoration and welding. Most of the trainees are from the rural side of South Africa and have come here at the initiative of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and a South African NGO, Umsobomyu Youth Fund (UYF). According to the Second Secretary, South African High Commission, Bobby Moroe who was present at the inauguration of the course, India has been identified by the South African Government as a source of rare skills. “These trainees will carry back these skills and help contribute to the progress of country”, he observed.
