Mint Homes, the U.S.-based real estate development and construction group, has launched a Rs. 100 crore residential project in Coimbatore. Promoted by Raj Natarajan, a non-resident Indian, the company has decided to have Coimbatore as its main centre for Indian operations.

Maiden project

Its maiden project in the country is “The Retreat” in Coimbatore.

This is a 136-apartment venture on 2.7 acres in Sowripalayam.

“We have already invested Rs. 25 crore in the project,” he told presspersons here.

Commercial launch

The commercial launch of the project will be in January 2008.

The first tower that will be ready for handing over to customers by January 2009 will have 40 apartments.

For the January launch, the units (1,450 sq.ft to 2,000 sq.ft) will be priced between Rs. 48 lakh and Rs. 75 lakh each. All common amenities are built first. “We focus on building communities that people can enjoy. So we have a good upkeep programme, landscaping and amenities.” The company studied eight cities in South India before deciding on Coimbatore for its first project.

Overseas projects

From Coimbatore, it will look at overseas projects too, he said.

It also planned to go in for an integrated township on 250 acre in Coimbatore and Mysore.

“We are evaluating the opportunities,” he said.

Apart from housing, the company will explore the potentials in resorts, eco-tourism and integrated organic farming projects too.
