The building collapse incident in Ukkadam has shaken the confidence of many apartment and multi-storeyed building dwellers in the city.

When ground soil becomes soft and flexible, both the foundation and the ground will loose its load bearing capacity. Hence, we need to carry out soil test and follow good construction practices according to the soil condition. The inner ground of the structure and surrounding platform should be integrated with foundation with the help of reinforced concrete. Then the entire weight of the building will not be transferred to the foundations alone. It will be distributed to inner ground and the surrounding platforms.
