Demand for imported marble

Imported marble from countries like Italy, Iran, Spain, Turkey, Egypt, Oman and China are increasingly being opted for due to their glazed and chic appearance.Topping the list of imported marble i
s the Italian sort. Most of the star hotels across the country prefer to use Italian marble for its sober and warm colours. The stone is available in slabs of different sizes and comes with a ‘resin filling’ which is the source of its rich texture and the glossy look.
Price range
Ranging from Rs.240 to Rs.1,500 per sft, Italian marble is available in predominantly temperate colours. For starters, ‘Botto Chino’, a variety of Italian marble, costs between Rs.240 and Rs.300 per sft. Rosso Alicante is another favourite choice and is priced at Rs. 280 per sft. The stone is primarily orange with white lines in the foreground. “Italian marble gives the room a very modern look. Some of the colours chosen quite frequently are Perlato Sicilia and Dyna which are beige coloured”, says Ravi Kanth of Sugna Marbles in Kamalapuri Colony.
Another stone called Tarentino that originates from Rome is priced at Rs. 220 to Rs. 350 and is available in colours like yellow, red, beige and dark brown. The costliest of Italian marble is Satwario. Mainly a white marble with thin grey lines, the stone costs any where between Rs.300 to Rs.1,500 per sft depending on the quality of the stone.
Marble from Iran also comes with a range of colours and the prices are on par with Italian marble. Varieties like Rosa Lia and and Roso Lavante cost Rs.270 and Rs.360 respectively.
The costliest Iranian marble is Onyx that comes in four different colours like honey, lemon, tiger and wooden. Onyx is priced at Rs.400 and Rs.1,500 depending on the quality and state of the stone.
From Spain
Spain is not left behind either. Alicante, which is named after a city of southeast Spain, is priced between Rs.270 to 280 per sft. Other varieties of Spanish marble include Pistachio and Grey William that come for Rs.260 and Rs.325 per sft. Marble like Black Marquino, Irish Brown, Tulip Brown and Hang Grey from China are placed at Rs. 220 to Rs.290 per sft.
Since these imported marbles are high on maintenance, using acidic solutions to wash the flooring is unadvisable.
