Builders seek amendments
The government move through GO 901 meant to regularise unauthorised constructions and violations of sanctioned plans was condemned by Lok Satta Party as one that penalise middle class house/apartment owners for the crimes committed by officials and builders.
“Penalties should be collected from the builders who have obtained occupancy fitness certificates despite construction irregularities.”
If builders do not pay, the government can even employ provisions of the Revenue Recovery Act. In any case, innocent house/apartment owners who have borrowed heavily and invested their lifetime savings to acquire shelter should not be punished,” Lok Satta Party President Jayaprakash Narayan observed in a statement issued here. “If necessary, we are prepared to go to court challenging the impractical and unviable provisions of the GO. The government has no right to demolish buildings other than the clearly unsafe ones,” he said.
Builders plea
The Greater Hyderabad Builders Federation has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy seeking certain amendments to the GOs 901 and 902 stating that certain factors were creating hardships for the common man and the builders in filing regularisations.
Among others, the federation wanted the stipulated time for submission of applications to be extended and fixing of uniform penalisation charges for all flats even where the height of the building was above 18 mts.
