Light up your life

White light or split in seven colours, when playing with shadows, can the way a building looks. Providing the right amount of lighting is important, not just to make a building impressive, but also in terms of health.

“Our body works on a sun clock from the time we wake up and go to sleep at night. Though artificial light cannot give the same energy as the sun, the adequate hx is required to even prevent medical complaints such as migraine," says Akash Mehta, Chief Operating Officer, Materials Management of Light Art. Chennai is the latest venture of Light Art which is based at Singapore’s Light Craft and have franchisee centres in Malaysia, Bangkok and Mumbai. They have lamps, shades and light panels catering from the lower, middle and the higher end project sections with latest trends and designs in LED, cold cathode, fluorescent and green lighting with a focus on energy. Their lighting designer Kapil Sinai Surlarkar of Goa, won The Paul Waterbury Award for Outdoor Lighting given by the Illumination Engineering Society of North America for the year 2007.

The winning project was the Akshardham Temple in New Delhi. Of course the price of many international brands run in lakhs of rupees, but it is a feast to watch the Barovier and Toso, the slender and minimalist Artemide, EYE LEDs, LUXIT, Vibis, moodlighting panels that are almost like abstract painting with concept lights, bamboo stick lights of Viabizzuno, soft lights hidden inside crushed silk shades, crystal lights of Swarovski.

So ultimately, the options are many but the budget is always a constraint.
