Urban planners and real estate stakeholders to discuss future prospects at summit
|
GIREM, a real estate and urban planning leadership summit, has announced that economist Jagdish Bhagwati will address a gathering of leaders in the realty industry on “Opportunities and challenges in the global economic landscape and building a new urban India.”
GIREM — a global platform — will be held from May 14 to 16 at Goa with stakeholders of real estate and urban planning.
The theme for the inaugural year is “Where opportunities meet.”
New challenge
Says Prof. Bhagwati, policy commentator on international trade, “Urban planning needs to be marked by an increased role for the real estate industry, in the spirit of the reforms that have transformed India and finally begun to reduce poverty substantially. The realty industry is also maturing and as India attains a greater economic stature globally, urban planning is a new challenge that has to forge ahead.
"GIREM is an important summit that would bring together the different stakeholders to provide a clear roadmap where the role of the Indian real estate industry can be defined.”
Prof. Bhagwati is University Professor, Economics and Law, at Columbia University, and Senior Fellow in International Economics at the Council on Foreign Relations.
Leadership awards
GIREM has also announced its Leadership Awards to honour excellence and best practices in the field.
The awards will be a benchmark for the real estate and urban planning sector by recognising individuals and companies in the field.
Panel
A panel of jury lead by Santhosh Martin, CEO, DivyaSree; Manisha Girotra, MD, UBS India; and Anuj Puri, Country Head, JLL, will evaluate each nomination for leadership, innovation, excellence and best practices to select 11 winners.
The panel will follow a rigorous measurement based methodology to select the recipients in varied categories — Company of the Year; Real Estate Person of the Year; Company with Best Practice; Most Promising Future Company; Architecture Firm of the Year; Real Estate Consultant of the Year; Green Project of the Year; Best Urban Development Project of the Year; Construction Company of the Year; Project Management & Engineering Firm of the Year; and Investor of the Year.
GIREM, a Triple Tree Event, has been designed with focus on fostering partnerships and deals and will bring together developers, corporate consumers, hotel groups, retail groups, investors, architects, urban planners and policy makers from across India and the world.
