The soft closing system for cabinets, glass shutters, completely modular shelves, precise fitting and in-built kitchen appliances all leave a German signature to your kitchen with Hacker. It is not just storage and space solution but technology and mechanism that make these modular kitchens stand apart.

Mukesh Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of Kanu Kitchen Kulture, showed us around the new Hacker Showroom on Mettupalayam Road in Coimbatore.

Models

Seven kitchen models have been displayed on about 2,000 sq ft.

And, one cannot but admire the precision with which each cabinet door and glass shutter closes.

The Hacker plant in Germany is completely mechanised with just 7 per cent human labour. The plant makes 500 to 550 completely customised kitchen a day and supplies to 46 countries, adds Willy Kamm, Board Assistent of Hacker.

In India, Kanu, the franchisee for Hacker Kitchen, has established showrooms in Delhi, Mumbai, Coimbatore and Bangalore and plans to expand to more cities.

A customer has 163 options to design his or her Hacker kitchen and the minimum cost will be about Rs. 3 lakh. From the date of placing the order, it takes just 10 to 12 weeks to install the new kitchen. “The customer pays for value, not just look and aesthetics,” adds Mr. Mukesh Kumar. “These are trouble-free kitchen,” he says.

The customer just needs to clean it with a wet cloth. So maintenance is not a problem. Every shelf or door can be removed for cleaning.

Mr. Kamm says: “Germany is called the capital of kitchen. It has nearly 2,200 kitchen manufacturers and just 100 of them manufacture. The 70-year-old Hacker company started specialising in kitchen in 1962 and enjoys 12 to 13 per cent market share in Germany.”

For the company, the three core markets in Asia are China, Japan and India.

“India is a long-term investment for us with a stable growth,” says Mr. Kamm. With free communication channels, people are more educated and know about different products, he says.

Some of the special options that it introduced for the Indian and Asian markets include draining boards, grain trolley, handle-free kitchen and a modification in the height of the kitchen table, for convenience.
