Did you know that the current ruling colour in interiors is light sky blue? This visual repose could be with a judicious merge of gold and silver, juxtaposing streaks of lemon yellow at the right point for the much needed contrast in focus areas. This is what Nerolac Paints research division has come up with after exchange of ideas with consumers, experts, fashion and interior designers and architects.
The colour for 2009 would be shades related to brown, says Nerolac, so be prepared to see all the subdued and mild coffee, brunette, auburn, chocolate and russet, if you are planning your upholstery, curtains and wall paint for the coming year!
This is the kind of ‘colour fad’ that Kansai Nerolac Paints has evolved, what with its association with Colour Marketing Group in the U.S. enabling professionals to study the world of dye and pigment before arriving at the predictions.
Says Venugopal, GM, Marketing, Kansai Nerolac Paints, “There is nothing superficial about it. Studying the colour movements is by itself a task and everything starts with dyes and fabric and the demand gradually percolates to the accessories, interiors and then reaches the automobiles too. You would be surprised to know that ruling colours also depend on the economic conditions in society and the stress levels associated with each nation.”
Nerolac Paints has today nearly 40,000 shades that are available in its ‘shade card’ but that’s not going to matter, says Venugopal as its contemporary services include showing the consumers their visualised colour on 3D software before placing the orders. What’s more, the company has come out with a scientific tool for studying colours in ‘colour wheel’ and the sky is the limit therefore!
Pioneering effort
Nerolac Paints, with an unbeatable share in the industrial paints sector, is fast zooming its way through in the domestic sector too. Its launch of ‘Nerolac Impression Style Zone’ (first outlet opened in the country) is a pioneering effort that allows consumers to experiment with colours so that they can create their own stylish homes using the Nerolac range of paints. The Style Zone will enable consumers to ‘touch and feel’ the paints before actually selecting one for their home. This is unique, given the fact that consumers now do not have the privilege of seeing the colours as they appear when applied on the wall. Generally paints are sold through exclusive paint stores or hardware/sanitary shops, making consumers depend on shade cards and computer visualisations.

“Nerolac Impression Style Zone will fill this gap and provide guidance and information on paints as consumers could make an informed choice. It’s a one-stop painting solution that helps a consumer choose a product after studying the tints and combinations that could be followed by hassle-free painting services.”
Speaking at the launch, Anuj Jain, Vice-President, Decorative section, Kansai Nerolac Paints, said, “Nerolac Impressions Style Zone is a step towards making the entire painting experience of a consumer memorable. We have designed this store as a one-stop solution to all possible consumer queries. We also have a software called ‘Nero magic’ which helps consumers visualise their room with the selected colour combination.”
Shaadi Style Guide
Their range of selection includes a serpentine list. In the premier ‘Impressions’ range, offers are for newly married couples where the ‘Shaadi Style Guide’ comes to rescue confused minds. Nerolac’s ‘Exterior Colour Architecture’ includes shades that can make a building look taller, broader, balanced and the like.
“Everything depends on how the paint is chosen for the right area. It’s in the selection of the spot, as much as the play of ‘light and dark’ shades,” explains Venugopal. Nerolac’s tie-up with Walt Disney enables even cartoons to be transferred on walls through the stencil and paint magic.
Apart from this, metallic finishes and marble finishes that could make even real marbles pale in comparison and the exterior texture finishes are what stand out in Nerolac’s hand-picked range on offer.
