Sold, only if it costs a lot

With supply outstripping demand, the stock of unoccupied property in Bangalore is on the rise. The dream of owning a home is becoming costlier by the day for the average Bangalorean and indications are that the demand for commercial property too has seen a slump as software firms are eyeing greener pastures. In the first quarter of 2008, the mismatch between demand and supply was nearly a million sq. ft. According to Snehal Mantri, Director of Mantri Developers, the reside ntial segment is moving slowly in cities such as Chennai and Hyderabad.

Kerala scenario

Kerala, which has been the favourite destination of tourists, is waking up to new realities.

The fast-changing lifestyle coupled with disposable incomes has created a huge demand for property. The younger generation has become more conscious of its living standards and is demanding the best for itself. Waterfront property is in huge demand in Kochi. Builders say they command premium prices and sell like “hot cakes.”
