NAC to make its presence felt

The National Academy of Construction (NAC) has trained 27,275 personnel in construction practises last year while increasing its training centres from 27 to 120.

With a training target of 50,000 for this year, the academy has imparted construction skills to more than 8,200 persons.

The construction technicians trades offered at NAC include masonry, bar-bending and steel fixing, plumbing and sanitation, formwork carpentry, electrical house wiring, painter and decorator, welding, operator excavating machinery, adda labour training programme and skill upgradation for pump operators and plumbers of all municipalities.

Middle level trades

The other middle level trades taken up here include general works supervisor, land surveyor, construction store keeper, architectural assistantship, cabinet-making, curtain-making, basics of computers and MS Office apart from vocational training in electrical trade, plumbing and sanitation.

To meet the targets, the NAC raised its teaching staff strength from 181 to 474 and formed placement cell, Director General Employment and Training Cell and Training of Trainers Cell.

Computer training for police personnel was also conducted while a trades training was also taken up for a team from South Africa and engineers from Afghanistan.

The training programmes of NAC also covered trainees from Meghalaya and Assam while special programmes were held for prisoners at Cherlapally, Warangal, Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam and Nizamabad.

For meeting the international standards in construction practices, a German expert has also been roped in for preparation of curriculum.

In association with Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, the NAC has taken up P.G. Diploma programmes in Facility Management, Building Technology, Construction Project Management and Highway Technology.
