Lounge or the living space is where the house meets itself and the guest. As a place where significant amount of time is spent, the demand for appropriate furniture that ensures a comfortable and energised lifestyle is most felt. Current trends in lounge furniture and recliner sofas answer the need to enhance personal comfort.
The Design Store at MRC Nagar, a unit of Dovetail Furniture Private Limited and an initiative of alumni from the National Institute of Design, has a range of contemporary furniture styles and corresponding accessories.
Ms. Geetha Elamurugan, store manager, elaborates, “Well designed products are increasingly being recognised as a means of reaching new audiences and improving living and working environments. Our designs can be customised into various combinations to suit the space and feel. Sofa arrangements are possible in L-shape, U-shape or single seat variations. These can be further complemented by corner tables and pouffes – an upholstered padded low seat, completely covered in fabric so that no legs are visible.”
The ‘Zion Living’ collection of modular seating units, crafted in stainless steel and rubber wood, offers a unique blend of style, function and comfort. The series includes a corner sofa, a single sofa, lounge chairs and centre tables that give the user flexibility to play around with different arrangements, complemented by low tables and storage. The objects in the range of Rs.10, 000 – Rs. 25, 000 can be purchased either single or as a complete ensemble.
Recliners for home-theatres
“Also available are cane recliners, both natural and artificial, in the price range of Rs.12,000 – Rs. 17,500 respectively. The leatherite recliner, manufactured from quality rexine, and the S-shaped lounger are some of the niche products marketed by the store”, she explains.

Extended table-tops for laptops, built-in storage, options for colour finishes and a 10-year warranty are the additional benefits of the product one can enjoy.
At the lower end of the spectrum, the store recommends ‘La-Z-Boy’ recliners, available with 18 reclining angles and 30 footrest positions in various material finishes. While a fabric upholstered recliner or artificial leather recliner can cost around Rs.20, 000, genuine leather recliners are offered in the range of Rs.30, 000 – Rs. 40,000.
