BPS: coffers full
At the end of the six-month period of the Building Penalisation Scheme (BPS) being in existence, Kukatpally municipal circle topped the list of having received 31,380 applications and collected Rs. 31 crore from among all the circles under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
It is followed by circle 10 (erstwhile circle five of MCH comprising of Khairatabad, Begumpet, Banjara Hills, etc.) where as many as 24,212 applications were received. L.B.Nagar and Gaddiannaram municipal circles stood third having received 24,071 applications.
Serilingampally – north and south together, considered to be high growth regions got 19,203 applications and Malkajgiri municipal circle which has been in the news when the High Court had ordered action against illegal structures saw 15,392 applications being filed.
Secunderabad or ex-circle seven was not lagging far behind having got applications to the tune of 14,235.
Ramachandrapuram-Patancheru and Kapra municipal circles got the least number of applications with 933 and 931, respectively.
Within Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) limits, 9,000 applications filed for BPS with penal fee paid touching Rs. 16.3 crore. While BPS to regularise unauthorised buildings and constructions built in deviation with the sanctioned plan was closed, the Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS) to officialise plots of illegal layouts would continue to be in vogue for the next three months.
In GHMC limits alone, more than 5,000 such structures had come up as per official estimates itself.
