Kerala Property Expo begins

The Kerala Property Expo 2008 got under way in Kochi on Friday as the Kerala Builders’ Forum, representing the interest of the building industry in the State, defies the general gloom in the market to offer a safe haven for investors in the State and outside.

The investors will be able to meet over 40 builders, interact with them and feel for themselves the market reality.

“Visit the Kerala Property Expo for a sound investment option,” is the confident slogan raised by the forum as it goes ahead with what has become an annual feature in the realty development business in Kerala.

Villas, apartments and commercial space will be on show during the expo, open till Sunday at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, Kaloor.

The builders’ confidence stems from the fact that there is not much of stock left in Kerala to be sold off in these days of falling sales.

M.V. Antony, secretary of the forum, says that real property is still the best bet for investment in Kerala. It is safe to invest, he said at a press conference called to announce the expo.

The market across the country has been shaken. However, the impact in Kerala will be limited because the fundamentals are sound, said the builders.

They base their confidence on the fact that the value of real property has risen consistently over the last decade.

The growth has been around 35 per cent a year. There is no reason to believe that the trend will not continue after this phase of correction in the real property market.

The leaders of the forum pointed to the crisis-like situation in 1996 when property price remained stable in Kerala while it crashed in other cities in the country.
