Committee on road safety

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has set up a committee to look into aspects of road safety and traffic management in the country.

The committee will make recommendations on safety standards for the design, construction and operation of national highways including road infrastructure.

It would also recommend standards of safety features for motor vehicles, according to an official statement.

Stopgap measure

The committee, which will be headed by Brahm Dutt, Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, is a stopgap arrangement and will cease to exist once the National Road Safety and Traffic Management Board comes into existence.

It will make suggestions to promote best practices in road safety and traffic management and also delve on the issue of trauma care system and frame guidelines for establishing and upgrading them. — PTI
