An elocution competition that witnessed a close fight for the prize.

Vimal Ramesh of Timpany Secondary School grabbed the top honours in the inter-school elocution competition organised by The Hindu, Visakhapatnam, as part of its Newspaper in Education programme, in association with the K.S. Gupta Memorial Trust. The runners-up in the finals were Abhijna of Bal Bharati Public School, NTPC-Paravada, and Neha Mishra of Sri Satya Sai Vidya Vihar. The other finalists were: Sai Srivinivas (Bal Bharati), V.L. Kavya Manjari (Kendriya Vidyalaya, NAD), K. Keerthi (KV-104 Area), S. Unica Mercy (Chaitanya Public School), K. Shika (Ramakrishna Residential School), Jaya Dev (Olivet School) and G. Manasa (Sri Satya Sai Vidya Vihar).

The topic was `India tomorrow and my role as a student', which witnessed 10 children competing for the top slot. The participants had a clear perception of the socio-economic and political scene in India and their role as future citizens. The Chairman of the Bar Council of India, D.V. Subba Rao, who was the chief guest at the prize distribution function, said, "It is good that The Hindu, and the K.S. Gupta Memorial Trust, had together organised this debate." Perala Balamurali Krishna, who participated as guest of honour, said that K.S. Gupta had endeared himself to the masses by working for their welfare.
