A suggestion that may help children who are less privileged get through their schooling.

All schools have a time set for what is laughably known as Socially Useful Productive Work. My own kids whiled away this time in school by doing nothing in particular. What they did do however, was that every Saturday they held free Math classes for kids who had dropped out of the school system and put them back into school. It was initially my idea but it was the kids who taught Math in Hindi. It was difficult because their Hindi was not so good, but they persevered and the class was held for four years during which several kids passed the crucial Std. VIII (when most kids drop out) and some even passed the Std. X with excellent marks. Schools could thus use the SUPW time for special coaching.
Here's how to go about it:
Assign a minimum of two periods minimum for SUPW activity. Ensure that it is the last two periods of the day and that every day some class from Std. VI to IX has SUPW. This is because several government schools finish in the morning and the children can attend class in the afternoon.
Assign one teacher for the SUPW period. She should know the local language and also be familiar with the subject taught. She should help the children of her school write notes in the local language and prepare themselves to teach the subject for Std. I, II, III, IV and V.
When the children are confident of teaching the subject they should put up notices informing others about the classes and asking them to meet the school volunteers at a particular day and time. You will get the best results if you talk to the principals of government schools.
Arrange for a meeting with the parents of both the student teachers and the students who will be undergoing tuition and let them know what you plan to do.
