A source book of information Discovering Jaipur , carries ideas and activities on the city of Jaipur. The book is an outcome of interactions with children across several schools in Jaipur and a series of workshops with teachers which included observation walks, interviews, case studies, brainstorming, elements of research and a variety of creative activities in art, writing and drama.
The book reaches out to teachers, school and college students, concerned citizens' groups and activists within the city and elsewhere. It could be used as a model for exploring any city in India.
Divided into 12 chapters, each chapter includes background information, ideas and activities that will help one in discovering one's urban reality. .
The book attempts:
To explain in detail the rich historical and cultural legacy of Jaipur through a relevant and thought-provoking text, incorporating incidents, anecdotes and case studies.
To create an awareness of the various factors that influence the design and building of a city. Linkages are made with environment, socio-economic, developmental, historical and cultural realities.
To emphasise the need for conservation of Jaipur in the future, understanding the pressures on a city today
