Interactive fun learning

Free the child’s potential, and you will transform him into the world”, said Maria Montessori and nothing can better describe Jambav’s mission better. A learning portal designed to facilitate the autistic child learn better, Jambav ( http://www.jambav.com), is funded by the software company Adventnet.

Rajendran Dandapani, head of team Jambav, says, “At Jambav, we believe that every child — be it neuro typical or the one with special needs — has a latent talent that is waiting to be tapped.” It operates through a series of games that children can play free online or teachers and facilitators can use to explain concepts.

Inspired by music, arts, science, mathematics, language, nature and more, none of the games has deadlines, timings or scores. This allows children to play at their own pace. Parents and educators should be empowered with the ability to customise the games and tools to suit children.

The activities are geared to handhold the child through small, measured steps until the game is mastered.

The game “Serial Fun” tackles sequencing, a concept that is hard to grasp for children with special needs in just three steps. “I Spy” seeks to teach shapes, sizes, colours and what have you with just a few clicks. Children with autism love this game of spot and click. Besides the platform also has a suite of online tools to help parents and facilitators evaluate, assess and track the progress of the child.

Tina Giovanni, Special Educator, based in the U.S. says, “Jambav includes information and experiences in an

interactive way.”

“For customisation of games we require registration on the website. It will also entitle users to our monthly newsletter — Jambav Yatra — that will update users with information on all new products launched at Jambav and new features in the existing products,” says Dandapani.

“Though Jambav was started as a site and product for children with special needs, we learnt during the process of working that even the so called ‘normal’ or neuro-typical children had different learning needs and that a method that worked with one child, does not necessarily work for the other. It is this learning that made us re-position Jambav and its products for children of all abilities.”
