Let's listen in on what some teenagers have to say on the happening trend in denim - the 'low rise' commonly known as low-waist jeans or hipsters.
The style, very hot when it came in a few years ago, has shown no signs of cooling-off yet, and there's a good reason why. "Low-rise jeans sit low on the hips, well below the waist as a result of which your behind looks smaller, more petite," smiles Samantha Jacob, a college student, "it also works on all body types and gives a leaner look." If it's comfort, then the 'low rise' fit has it too! Divya Khanna from Mumbai says that since the waistband of her low-waist jeans fit lower on the waist, they are a lot less restrictive and do not put too much pressure on the abdomen.
When it comes to the pair of jeans youngsters wear, choosing the right fit will depend largely on the brand. Karthick Gupte admits, "I am brand conscious - give me a Levi's or Lee any day," he shrugs and explains that the advantage of sporting a branded low waist jean is that one can be sure about the fit and comfort. Saranya Varadan, a final year B.com student says, "I don't mind spend Rs.1500 to Rs. 2500 on a Levi's or Jealous pair of jeans because I know it will last."
"Every denim brand offers low-waist jeans (some lower than others) priced between Rs 800 and Rs 2,000, while the price for non-branded pairs begin at Rs 500 onwards," confirms Nidhi Kapur, a Visual Communications student. Price is not quite the deciding factor as far as 'low rise' jeans go and every teenager carries off his or her hipster with the same pride!
