The yellow metal reincarnated
“Though white gold boasts the same properties as classic yellow gold, it achieves its white colour by mixing with different alloys,” Mr. Vinod, Manager, Kiah Diamond Jewellery, Somajiguda, informs, “but generally, white gold is created when a nickel or palladium alloy (zinc and copper) is used.” White gold may also be plated with an even whiter metal such as rhodium to enhance the metal’s cool appearance”.
Just like yellow gold, white gold is available in 8kt, 14kt, 18kt and so on, and the characteristic properties of white gold will depend on the ratio of the metals used. Mr. Vinod says, “White gold is mainly used for making light weight chains, earrings and bracelets because the metal used in making white gold is shinier and flexible and youngsters prefer it.” He went to add that white gold setting enhances the rapture of white diamonds giving the ornament a sophisticated look. “The trend of younger people going in for white gold is catching on quickly because the metal has a long-lasting and lustrous property,” he confirms.
With sophisticated and contemporary looking jewellery fast becoming the city’s favourite, white gold is the choice of many.
