“I feel the biggest challenge today is to keep up with the times, be it in terms of quick and speedy service or more variety and variations in our product line – one should always be in touch with the needs of the customer,” says M Murali, MD, Sri Krishna Sweets, “I am my own first customer. I always look at my outlets critically, like a third person.”
“We have not revolutionized the sweet business,” says Murali with characteristic humility, “The customers have made us change according to their shift in tastes and expectations. Finally it is the customer’s appreciation and brand loyalty that has made us a success. Hence our concepts are designed with the customer’s requirement in mind… be it displays, service or superior quality product.”
“Those were the days when customers used to come to us… today we have to go to the customers,” Murali explains the burgeoning number of Sri Krishna Sweets’ outlets. “We have tie ups with other organizations like Spencer’s Daily, to make our product more accessible to the customers. Further more we are also planning on centralization of the kitchen operations. That way we can control and maintain the quality and consistence of our products in all our outlets.”
Sri Krishna Sweets’ foray into vegetarian fine dining with their signature restaurant ‘Rasam’ in Purasawakkam is obviously just the beginning. “We are definitely looking at becoming a chain of restaurants; in fact our sweet stores have already become full fledged restaurants today. But the focus will always be traditional cuisine in contemporary style.”
Murali, who has been regularly associated with numerous community upliftment programmes in the city says, “I welcome opportunities to revive and remind ourselves about nearly forgotten traditions of our culture. It does not have to be about festivals; it could also be about respecting elders or helping the less fortunate, it is all there in our traditions.” Sri Krishna Sweets always makes special occasions more special with interesting and attractive offers. The Founder’s day offer on Mysurpa is an annual constant. Even a Karthigai Deepam or Raksha Bandhan purchase is made memorable, as, along with your sweets you will get some thoughtful package pertaining to that festival, like typical prasadam, a deepam or a rakhi. Their latest outlet launched at Madipakkam has as an introductory offer of a savoury item free with the purchase of sweets.
According to Murali, the inimitable and immensely popular Mysurpa is more than a Sri Krishna Sweets trademark, “It symbolizes valuable customer loyalty and our constant effort in giving only the best. In fact I would say that besides the besan, ghee and sugar, what really make our sweets more delicious are the blessings of all our customers, the dedication of our people, God’s grace and my father’s vision.”
