HAREM PANTS the teenage rage

IF you are keen on following what’s hot on the ramp, and what’s doing the rounds this year in the Fashion arena, you’re in for a treat! If you aren’t a religious follower of fashion magazines and like comfort to be the sole definition of style, you’re in for a treat too!!!

Yes! The recent trend of Denim-substitutes or Harem pants and leggings have taken most colleges by storm and how!! Don’t be mislead by the name, for ‘Harem’ pants are all over the place and still going. These comfortable pants come in different sizes, colours, fabrics and prints, while leggings have come as a boon to all those chic youngsters whose parents thought mini skirts are “not for them”.

The mind behind “Wundershop”, designer Kedar believes harems pants and leggings are a perfect balance of style and utility. Says Kedar, “They can be worn to a party, to college, to dance classes, practically anywhere. Harem pants are on their way to becoming a ‘must-have’ in every woman’s wardrobe.” And leggings, opines the young designer, are surely rocking with the youngsters as it works well with the Indian sensibilities.

Managing partner of ‘Wardrobe’, Rajesh Rupani, believes this trend is fast spreading in colleges thanks to the "industry" and media. Harem pants are imported from countries like Hong Kong and China and are sold in Hyderabad for Rs. 495/- (onwards). Leggings have been received better by major brands like Benetton and ginger and cost around Rs.599 to Rs.799. Harem pants, that were popularized by Kareena Kapoor in the movie “Jab We Met”, are going to stick around for another whole season predict the retailers and the college goers sure co operate well with them!

Although designer Asmita Marwah personally believes Harem pants were out of the ramp almost a year ago, she swears by the magic of chic tunics, chiff dresses teamed up with leggings. She excludes the college going teens from such fashion rules and believes if presented properly, anything looks good on teens! Skinny jeans (A denim version of leggings!) she vouches by and predicts it is here to stay for a while!

Kedar suggests aka Manish Arora’s creations at the recent fashion weeks, plain tops with printed leggings are sure to fetch you admiration! So what are you waiting for? Go grab yourself this fashion must have for the season for it suits all pocket types! There are plenty of stores in and around the city that are making fat profits selling harem pants and leggings, and all it takes for you to be in vogue (and be comfortable at the same time) is to invest in some smart harem pants and leggings.
