As we grow up, the birthdays which were celebrated in zeal are soon forgotten and we go on with life. But when it comes to the New Year celebration, enthusiasm never subsides! New Year resolutions have been a part of the New Year ritual from time immemorial.
So what are the young citizens planning for the year ahead?
“Resolution? Well, I would like to be happy,” says 18 year old Lydia Angelina. She continues on a philosophical note, “Simple, it may sound. But it isn’t that easy to be happy in the face of adversity.” For commerce student Ayaz Sheriff, it’s a different story.
“I don’t believe in resolutions!” he says, “I just follow my heart.” Many teenagers today echo his sentiments; for them, decisions are to be taken at the spur of moment.
Siva Sankari S, who is in her late teens wants this year to be more meaningful. She says, “From the coming year, I would like to indulge in charity which goes beyond the monetary level.” She adds with obvious enthusiasm, “I would like to get into the thick of things.”
Merline K, who is battling it out in a top engineering college has this to say on her New Year resolution, “I was a book worm before I joined college, now I read only my college texts. This year, I have resolved to make more time for this passion of mine,” says this avid book lover.
We caught up with school going Varun K who was playing cricket in the streets.
“I have always been playing around,” accepts this 11 th Std student. “Next year, I would want to be more serious with my life. I need to decide on my career as well!” he says on a surprisingly serious note.
Resolutions or not, these teenagers seem to know where they are heading to.
