The Rich Legacy of Taste

Be it Sachin Tendulkar or Rahul Gandhi or an array of dignitaries visiting Hyderabad, all of them have sampled the famed Hyderabadi cuisine at the city’s most famous culinary landmark

HYDERABAD, the city of Nawabs is famous the world over for its rich cultural legacy and historic monuments resplendent of a bygone era. Golkonda, Charminar, 7 Tombs and a host of other tourist attractions have made the city immensely popular. Apart from these there’s another place which is loved by visitors as well as the locals. Be it Sachin Tendulkar or Rahul Gandhi or an array of dignitaries visiting Hyderabad, all of them have sampled the famed Hyderabadi cuisine at the city’s most famous culinary landmark, Paradise Hotel.

The place inspires awe in visitors and strikes a deep emotional chord with many a local. It would only be appropriate to state that the eatery is intrinsically and inextricably linked with Hyderabad’s rich cultural legacy. Dr. Kazim, the Managing Partner of Paradise goes down the memory lane with Retail Plus as the eatery celebrates its 55th anniversary.

“It all started way back in 1973 adjacent to the then popular cinema hall Paradise. After 55 years of serving culinary delights to zillions of food lovers across a wide cross section of the society, Paradise has become a landmark in Hyderabad. The good old days have gone and so has the Paradise theatre. Yet the place is known as Paradise junction thanks to our restaurant” quips Dr. Kazim. The restaurant which had humble beginnings in a quaint looking place is today spread across several floors catering to Mughlai food aficionados from different walks of life and several strata of the society. Elaborating about the same, Dr. Kazim says “We have different floors catering to different segments of customers.

The food is basically the same which carries the unmistakable stamp of the iconic Paradise taste. It’s just that the ambience differs from section to section.” Paradise is known the world over for its Biryani and Irani Chai (tea). Apart from the sizeable section of the locals who are addicted to the magical taste dished out at Paradise, a host of visitors drop in to indulge themselves in delectable delicacies.

“The take away section of Paradise is a big hit too what with people regularly queuing up for their daily dose of Mutton or Chicken Biryani or Kababs or any of our Mughlai and Tandoori specialties. We also have a lot of travelers packing in our take away stuff almost on a daily basis” adds Dr. Kazim. In fact the hotel has introduced special parcels for travelers’ convenience.

The men behind the success saga called Paradise are Mr. Ali and Dr. Kazim, brothers and partners. Reminiscing about the days gone by, Dr. Kazim avers “My brother Mr. Ali was always keen about giving the customers total value for money and he has strived relentlessly to ensure the same. Till date we measure our success not in terms of sales or revenue but the number of smiles we have put on customers’ faces and the amount of joy we have delivered through our fine dining experience.” The two most striking features about the eatery are its incredibly low prices and distinct taste which it has managed to retain over the years. After all there are not many places where a customer can get rich, wholesome non-veg fare for under Rs. 100/- . Well that’s Paradise.

Talking about the taste of Paradise which is so unique in nature, Dr. Kazim says “We have been successful in retaining that distinct aroma and taste mainly because of the magic of our chefs. Most of them have been with us for a very long time and our association dates back to several decades.” It would not come as a surprise if Paradise celebrates its 100th anniversary and still be known for that magic laced food which accords it a legendary status on the culinary landscape of Hyderabad.
