Ringing in the attention

The best part about rings is that anyone can wear them

THE reasons may be myriad, but the end result is the same-attention! Get used to being the centre of attention with huge chunky finger rings, for it is very much in vogue to flaunt them off! Get all those huge rings off the shelves this season and embellish your fingers with them as they can be extremely a la mode and comfortably so!

The best part about rings is that anyone can wear them-people that are too conscious of what to wear to any party can easily pass their rather plain gowns off with a touch of bling, just by introducing a showy finger ring. Be it adorning a plain black evening gown with an Amrapali ring! The brand sells amazing ethnic and contemporary jewellery, and the rings are worth a dekko!

Finger ring enthusiasts, like Namratha Pakalapati, a psychology graduate, are not really affected by fashion trends as they opine that not all accessories are meant for everyone! Fair enough. The young chica claims to have been collecting rings for over half a decade now and has to her credit over half a dozen rings. “I am very passionate about my rings, and most of them are quite expensive, so they are all the more “dear” to me.” Namratha gets most of her rings from USA and adds that stores in and around the city aren’t very bad either for collectors!

People have favourite ones that they wear with no matter what, and one such ring of hers is a ring that she got or Rs.5 at Hampi! “It’s the most amazing piece of jewellery i have ever seen and I keep it one me, regardless of what I’m wearing!”. Her collection of rings ranges from Rs.5 to Rs.10,000, and the collection is only still in it’s nascent stage!

Places like Shopper’s Stop and central have rings made of glass and come in cute shapes and sizes. While there are smaller local shops selling plastic ones, which ahem, may or may not be cute! There are jewellery stores which make rings made of silver or gold on order basis, and there are local jewellery designers who make fantastic pieces of art, out of precious/semi precious gems. A curious play on a “chunky” ring, that’s worth mentioning, is the set of rings that is sold at mom and me, which come in cute (well, almost cute) shapes and sharp and loud colours. Thank god for adjustable rings, these rings (originally made for kids) can fit all sizes.

The most cost effective way to revamp your dull wardrobe would have to be investing in a set huge rings, which not only bring glamour to what you wear, but also adds zing to your fingers (irrespective of how well maintained they are!).
