It’s Raining Gold!

Chennai’s swanking new jewellery showroom, Joyalukkas opens to sky- high gold rates and waves of single-minded gold shoppers, who just don‘t seem to care about the soaring price tags!

With the never-ending string of gold shops aligned right across the street, perennial flyover construction ensuring impassable roads and gold prices hitting an all time high of Rs.1,206 per gram, would you think that yet another sinful temptation would be welcome in the metro? You bet! Chennai has come through once again and has not only made graceful space, but also laid down the red carpet for the glittering newcomer - Joyalukkas. The welcome has been so exuberant that it has taken even the shop owners by surprise!

Joyalukkas takes up four floors of Prashanth Gold Towers, of which three were inaugurated on March 16, 2008. It is the largest gold showroom in the world and has a dizzying 1.5 tons of gold jewellery and features over one lakh designs. The opulence of the outlet is not only seen in the 10,000 varieties of jewellery that it houses, but is quite apparent from the sparkling décor as well. A Rs.75-lakhs Swarovski crystal chandelier lights up the floor spaces of each of the three levels. The first floor houses rows and rows of lightweight patterns, chunky bridal wear and studded ornaments of every type. But what is fascinating here is the sheer volume of the selection.

The second floor is where all the action is. The global reach that Joyallukas has is reflected by the eleven international brands of gold and precious gems jewelry.

It is safe to state that this is something Chennai has not played host to before. The colours of Turkey, Lebanon, Istanbul, France and Italy come alive in the intricate filigree and enamel work patterns. Says Suraj, Spokesperson, “ Natura, an Italian brand has leaf and floral motifs while Akshaya carries attractive pendants hung on silk threads.

Zenina, Mayuri, Teens & Twenties and Parineeta are a few of the popular brands we endorse. You can also find a one kilogram bridal set on display in this floor.”

The third floor is an exclusive diamonds and platinum section. It also has its share of brands like Navratna, Polki, Nakshatra and Sparx. All the diamonds are certified by the International Gemological Institute. The specialty of this floor is the platinum designer wear for men.

Designs can be found in the price range of Rs.5,000 up to Rs.30 lakhs. A unique ‘buy back’ offer allows you to exchange designs within a ten-day period.

So, if its jewellery that excites you, make a trip to Joyallukas and just splurge!
