Happening

An Evening of Sufi Qawwali

Twelve-year-old Rais Anis Sabri is one of the youngest performing Sufiana Qawwals. He is the son and disciple of Rais Sabri who trained with the renowned Qawwal, Aslam Sabri. Rais Anis Sabri started learning the intricacies of Sufi Qawwali from the age of four and gave his first performance at seven. He is now hailed as the most promising and talented star of traditional Sufi Qawwali.

Celebrating the tradition of Hazrat Nizamuddin, the famous Sufi saint of the Chishti Order and Amir Khusro, the renowned 13th century Sufi poet, Rais Anis Sabri has enthralled and captivated audiences with his Ruhaniyat or soulfulness. His choreographies are contemporary and include social issues, one of the most well-known being Maa Baap Ka Dil Na Dukha. His style is true, classical Sufi Qawwali – intoxicating, spiritual, enchanting and uplifting.

Enjoy an evening of Sufi Qawwali by this child prodigy at Kamaraj Memorial Hall on April 4, 2008 at 7 p.m. The event is being organised by Friends of DakshinChitra.
