Finger Tips

INTERIOR DECORATION:

Colours: Light colours on the wall make a room look larger while dark colours make them look smaller. In general, quiet colours are used for adult’s bedroom, bright colours for the children’s room. The kitchen is usually painted a light colour.

To Relieve Monotony: Changing the positions of furniture and decorations regularly relieves monotony and gives a fresh perspective.

Displaying Small Objects: Small articles are best displayed in a group.

Table Display: Fruits and vegetables make attractive table displays. For example, apples and oranges piled high in a brass or glass bowl is an eye-catching sight.

Water Arrangement: Float flowers like roses, lilies, lotuses, champakas, orchids, jasmine, etc, in shallow urns, wine glasses or glass bowls filled with water. Floating fragrant flowers lends the whole room a delicate perfume.

UNUSUAL ROOM DIVIDER:

Jute Mats: Inexpensive jute, coir or reed mats suspended from heavy duty curtain rods make an unusual room divider and lend an ethnic touch.

Glass Curtains: Usually, curtains are used on windows. Use them to visually divide a room into living and dining area, or the sleeping and study area.

Swing: Hang a traditional swing if you can; in any case, provide one small swing for your children, a hanging cane chair or a Bombay type jhoola.

USING SPACE OPTIMALLY

Multiple Uses: Where space is at a premium, a plank of wood can be attached with hinges to a wall. It can be put to any number of uses eg., as a writing table, an ironing table, side table, etc.,

Divans From Deal-wood Boxes: Many people who hold with frequent transfers have big deal-wood boxes. If they cannot be stored in lofts, they occupy valuable floor space. Join two such boxes together. Spread a thick sheet or an old mattress on them. Now spread an attractive bed sheet over it so that the wood is no longer visible. Place attractive cushions and you now have an unusual divan.
