IN the book Shantaram, the author quotes something to the effect that, India is the only country in the world where people wear jeans irrespective of what the weather is like! Now whether or not we Indians appreciate the quote, we invariably prove him right! Be it in the scorching heat, pouring rains or freezing winters, a major chunk of the urban Hyderabad clings on to denims like there is no other fabric! Wearing fabrics and clothes to suit the climate is the most sensible way of dressing and add to it, the fact that in places of extreme weather conditions like our city, the need to wear the right clothes is tripled! So at least as a trial session, chuck the denims this season, and switch to cute summery gowns, whether evening or not!
It is funny how in Hyderabad we associate gowns just with evenings and parties! Along with the hemlines of denims and skirts going short, summer sure brings in a lot of cute cotton and other light fabric gowns. Chemistry, the new name in urban wear, is every smart dresser’s blessing! The place houses extremely well crafted gowns coming in great cuts and colours. The shop located on the ground floor of city centre, is just a couple of months old, but is attracting young chicas like crazy! Chemistry works wonders, creating marvelous gowns and frocks with the otherwise mundane cotton, allowing the youngsters of the city to experiment with wardrobe without being uncomfortable. Striking the perfect balance between western cuts and capturing them on cotton and lycra is very much laudable. Shades of grey, black, whites, greens and yellow dominate the colour scheme while knee length gowns available in all sizes are worth every penny you pay.
Voila, the designer lounge, located bang opposite City Centre houses clothes of various brands rights from banana republic to other brands you wouldn’t recognise! The collection they have is well balanced between too much to resist and too much to handle. However the summery frock-like things they have is simply too breezy to let go. Their evening gown collection is good as well. Blacks and whites rule the scene and the fabrics are rather predictable. The store also houses accessories by Aldo, D&G, etc. One can team up the plain and sober summer gowns with the smart belts available at the store, to add that element of bling and Voila! You are ready to turn heads!
For those who believe in cost effective ways to invest in clothes, head to stores like Cool Club and Go Bananas! They have clothes that may not last a lifetime but are sure to get you through summer and that too for a price that can only fetch you a hand kerchief in the elite stores! On a more serious note, these shops too have wearable clothes and with fashion trends changing every fortnight college goers are not likely to invest in gowns costing them a fortune! Chic knee length button up cotton gowns sell like hot cakes at these stores, as do the long shirt-like things! Ganjis are also a huge hit with the urban crown as they can be worn with practically anything-capris, skirts, shorts, trousers, wrap-arounds, skorts, etc. Wardrobe also has an extensive line of dresses, ranging from evening wear, to heavy duty party wear, from smart college wear to cute summer wear. Also head towards Prendergast road, Sindhi colony areas to find a row of stores selling similar stuff to suit your needs. Rest assured you will have no complains for the price you pay at these stores! Show Off is one such store which houses party wear gowns and smart summery dresses coming in very breezy hues and fabrics.
For the more conventional and less economical, there are stores like Elahe, Tommy Hilfiger, Anonym, Also, Ballad and other designer stores, mostly adorning the streets of Jubilee Hills, which sell creations by renowned designers. Elahe has a good collection of party wear by designers that are a beautiful blend of craftsmanship and innovation, is what best describes these pieces of art! The cool and breezy materials stitched with utmost precision and detail cannot but fail to impress you.
