The Magic of Stretching

CONTINUING where we left last week, Mohd. Naseer demonstrates some more stretches which aid a long way in strengthening several muscle bodies. They impact almost all the important muscles of the lower body, midriff and even shoulders. Apart from being therapeutic in nature, they are highly effective in negating the risk of muscle related injuries. Integrating these movements into your fitness regimen helps immensely in maintaining a result oriented fitness schedule.

Step – 1: Lie down on the floor face down and slowly lift the upper body up with the help of palms. Keep the lower body close to the ground. Slowly drag one of the feet to the front (chest level) and lock by taking the knee support. Hold for some time by exerting pressure on the stretched leg. Change legs and repeat.

Step – 2: This movement is the subsequent step of the first one. Slowly release the leg locked in the first step and push it forward. Push till the leg is completely stretched in front of you. Now the body weight is mostly felt on the leg joints and mid riff. Change legs and repeat.

Step – 3: Sit on one knee while the other leg is stretched backwards. Keep both the hands on hips and move the hand opposite the bent knee. Lock the opposite hand against the bent knee and hold. Change legs and repeat.

Step – 4: This again is a movement which logically follows the previous one. Place both the hands on hips again while one of the knees is bent and the other leg stretched out. Slowly fold the stretched out leg and balance it on the knee. Hold the foot with the corresponding hand and hold while looking up. Change legs and repeat.

For best results breathe in and breathe out rhythmically. Stop the regimen if you experience any sharp pain in the relevant body parts.
