Boney M in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness

OCTOBER is observed as Pink Ribbon month or breast cancer awareness month. KIMS – Ushalakshmi has invited Marcia Barrett of the famed German pop and disco group Boney M to perform in the twin cities as part of its endeavour to promote breast cancer awareness.
Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation (a registered Charity - www.breastcancerindia.org) will be organising The PINK RIBBON NITEon Friday, 24 October 2008, HICC at 7.30 pm featuring the Original Boney M Live Concert.
Marcia Barrett, the lead singer, Performer, writer and producer and indeed a Breast cancer survivor will feature in this Event in Hyderabad for the FIRST time ever in October. Dr. David Mulford, US Ambassador to India and Mrs. Jeannie Mulford, Wife of US Ambassador and breast cancer survivor would be the Chief guests at this function.
The Event is unique in that a Breast cancer survivor would be performing live for a Breast Cancer Foundation charity show during the Breast Cancer Awareness Month with an eminent breast cancer survivor as one of the Chief Guests
Over the past one year, Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation has been empowering women about the importance of Breast awareness and early detection of Breast cancer. This campaign has already saved many lives. To coincide with the Breast Cancer Awareness month worldwide, this unique event is being held to further strengthen this campaign.
As breast cancer cannot be prevented, the two ways of fighting this disease isbeing Breast aware &to understand theimportance of early detection of breast cancer.
It is a well-recognised fact world over that improved outcomes for Breast Cancer can be achieved if Specialists with a declared interest & training in Breast Diseases manage these patients in dedicated Comprehensive Breast Centres. KIMS – Ushalakshmi Centre for Breast Diseases is proud to be on the forefront bringing about this revolutionary change in the Indian Subcontinent. The Ushalakshmi Breast Care Foundation was set up collaboration with Breast Cancer Care UK, an organization that has a track record of providing breast cancer information and support across UK for the past three decades.
KIMS – Ushalakshmi Centre for Breast Diseases was visualized, designed by Dr. P. Raghu Ram and is a unique initiative of Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Hyderabad, a first of its kind in the Indian sub continent.
The state-of-the-art dedicated centre for breast diseases offers one stop centre for clinical assessment, breast imaging and breast biopsy for early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer and other diseases.
Their mission is to make significant and meaningful difference to the lives of people affected by breast cancer or with Breast health concerns through the provision of high quality, innovative & cutting edge technology, and equally, committed to promoting excellence in personalised patient care.
Dr. P. Raghu Ram, MS, FRCS (Edin), FRCS (Glasg), FRCS (Irel) is the Director of KIMS-USHALAKSHMI Centre for Breast Diseases, Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon, Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences and the Chief Executive officer, Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation. He is the Convenor, Overseas Surgical Postgraduate Courses conducted by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCS Ed) in INDIA and also the Convenor, Intercollegiate MRCS Examinations, conducted by Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Hyderabad, Feb. 2008 (First time for MRCS Final Exams to be held in Andhra Pradesh in the 500 years history of the College). He has Co authored Ten Chapters in two Textbooks of Surgery & published several papers in peer reviewed Journals and has also delivered guest lectures in National & International Conferences on various aspects relating to Breast Cancer Surgery. His mission is to dedicate the rest of his professional career to promote the art and science of breast surgery in India and to make a significant and meaningful difference to the lives of people affected with breast cancer or breast health concerns in India.
