Fashion ambassadors all

The Vivel Miss Chennai Chennai Man 2009 is underway and 22 finalists (12 boys and 10 girls) contested for two subtitles - the Vivel Mr and Miss Talent and Vivel Mr And Miss Photogenic at the GRT Grand recently. A panel of judges that included actor and dancer Uma Riaz Khan picked the winners. The contestants displayed their talent and the winners were: Vivel Miss Photogenic - Swetha; Vivel Mr Photogenic - Geethan and Vijay Victor; Vivel Miss Talent - Sahithya and Swetha; Vivel Mr Talent - Ganesh Ram and Vijay Victor. The highlight of the event was the social awareness campaign chosen by the team, to educate young under-privileged children in aid of the 'Sishu Kalvi' project. Earlier, the Tion Congeniality round was held at GRT's High Time and the winners were Sunil Pandeti and Suchitra. For the first time, Vivel Miss Chennai and Chennai Man 2009 will be crowned at Colombo, SriLanka.

Concert tour

K. Sathyanarayanan, a 14-year old musician performing Carnatic music on the keyboard, recently returned after a two-month concert tour of the US and Canada. Starting his tour on the 3rd of April, 2009 with a lec-dem in Portland, USA, Sathyanarayanan performed 19 concerts and a few lec-dems until the 31st of May, 2009. This tour, organised by Smt. Kala Iyer of Kalalaya, San Jose, CA, USA had Sathyanarayanan on the keyboard, Embar S. Kannan on the violin, Poongulam Subramanian on the mridangam and T. Krishnababu on thalam.

Attitude is the name of the game says the trio Vimmi Deepak, Manisha Budhia and Ketki Chandavarkar, who are bringing an exhibition of jewellery, fashion designers, artists and other exclusive products at Chola Sheraton on July 7 2009. Fashion designer Shaina Chudasama Munot popularly known, as Shaina NC will demonstrate styles in saree draping?at 5.15 pm at her stall.

A pre-event at Taj Coromandel with a Swarovski show at a cocktail evening will flag off the event.


Treasures from the past

'Prince Jewellery' is showcasing a collection of rare and antique jewellery at their Cathedral Road showroom till 15th July 2009. Princeson Jose and wife Sheeba's passion is to collect such 'ancient treasures' all year round to exhibit in their 'Ancient Secrets' exhibition and sale, that brings together a collection of original and recreated antiques. Authentic antique pieces collected by the Prince family during their travels across India will also be on show. From thalis, addigais and Manga Malais from Tamil Nadu, bridal finery and ear ornaments from the Malabar coast, necklaces from Kholapur, Maharashtra, Thewa work from the atliers of Rajasthan, jhumkas, from the North, the famed Gowrishankaram necklace from Chettinad, Mughal era pieces and more, there is plenty to choose from. From10.30am - 8pm, open on Sundays.
