First Take

Retail has never been driven so much by films as it is today. On the Net, on mobile phones or on paper ads, stars are everywhere, driving the sales of music, wallpapers or washing machines. We take a look into what is keeping the keepers of Kollywood on their toes.

Another new face

Yet another new actress joins Kollywood with the Shanthnoo starrer Kandein. Rashmi Gautam stars in this flick directed by AC Mugil, a former assistant to Prabhu Deva. The film has Santhanam in a key role and is Shanthnoo's next outing after a gap. The music of the film, launched a while ago by Gautam Menon's label, is already topping the charts. Lets hope the film is a hit for Shanthnoo this time round!

Vikram's next

Chiyan Vikram is already onto his next film which will be a magnum opus titled Karikalan, touted as both a period and a contemporary flick, produced by SilverLine Film Factory. Directing the mega-budget venture is L I Kannan, who worked for special efects in films like Enthiran, Anniyan, Eeram, Ghajini and Sivakasi. Harris Jeyaraj, who is known for coming up with catchy tunes, will be the music composer. Zarine who acted opposite Salman Khan in Veer is the female lead. Pasupathy and Shanmuga Raja play prominent roles in it.

Flying start

Jiiva seems have had a flying start in 2011 and seems to be the happening flavour of the season, switching from the sets of his various films. The actor is busy juggling schedules for Rowthram with Sriya Saran, Vandhaan Vendraan with Taapsee and Nanban with Shankar. Add to that promoting Rangam, the Telugu version of Ko, in Hyderabad. Flying between Chennai, Switzerland and Paris, he seems to be living off a suitcase these days!

Changes galore

Its been an eventful time in Kollywood with the new guard taking over. While Khusbhoo resigned her post as head of the Chinna Thirai Producer's Council, Rama Narayan resigned from as head of the Film Producer's Council. SA Chandrasekar took over his post. Apart from Captain Vijaykanth who will lead the opposition, Nadigar Sangam Sarath Kumar contested the elections in TN and won on his party ticket. Producer and actor Arun Pandian too has won a seat in the recent elections. Change seems to be the only constant.
