Shopping sans frills

An online clothing store for children's wear is the brainchild of a young couple with a simple idea...

Though the convenience and thrill of shopping with a mouse, to have merchandise arriving at your house is yet to become quotidian in our country, Venkatesh Madhava is boldly banking on Indian buys going the way of the west. He has launched a kid's line of clothes that is available only online.

With his experience in sourcing for the garment export industry, Venkatesh was eager to present Indian parents with children's apparel that is designed and manufactured in India and yet conforms in appeal and quality to international standards. Ergo, along with wife Sharanya, a trained designer, he has set sail a brand with an appellation that is easy on the lips and quietly different. Incidentally, it reminds him of his brief happy sojourn in New Zealand where many suburbs are called. Pinehill. Pinehill, Venkatesh reckons "comes as a relief in a market that assumes that kids' attire should be synonymous with flashiness". "Our cuts, colours and motives are subtly classy. Moreover, since we are not bogged down by store related overheads we can pass on that benefit to the customer," says Venkatesh.

This outfit caters to the age group of six months to 8 years. Sharanya's delineations are translated in factories in Tirupur. Sharanya has an eye for detail you can tell as her thought stretches right down to the last trimming. Some of the designs, particularly in the girls' options, mimic high street fashion. The prints, smocking and stiches are just what the upwardly mobile aspire - western but with a toned down touch, a few are charmingly desi too. The prices are neat, starting at Rs.300. A boys trouser and top comes for under a thousand rupees.

"We are planning to keep the variety moving by introducing at least three style seasons every year," informs Venkatesh. "Our first two deliveries are for free, after which shipping for every consignment to any city in India is charged at Rs. 20. The customers are free to return, and the first four returns are for free. we do both exchange as well as full refund," he stresses.

Pinehill's website is client friendly. The guidelines for the size selection are very accurate too. What's more, with brands like Pinehill in the Indian bazaar, Indians, no longer have to succumb to the limitations of export rejects, 'cause here comes merchandise that resembles western labels but is manufactured in India for the Indian glocal.
