How can one prevent worm infestation in vegetables and fruits?

Worm infestation is a common problem in vegetable and fruit cultivation. On early detection, a light spray of malathion 2ml dissolved in one litre of water and for advanced stages metasystax 2ml dissolved in one litre of water may be sprayed.
