Farm Queries

Increasing areca yield

I have around 400 areca nut trees in an area planted 5 years ago. Inspite of using natural manure such as cow dung, goat pellets, bone meal, neemcake, the growth rate (only 5 to 6 feet) seems to be very slow and stunted. Could you kindly let me know the method to boost the growth rate of the trees?

Sunil Sreedharan
Thrissur

Soil condition is a major factor responsible for the use of manures and fertilizers by the plants. If the soil is hard below, then the growth of the plants will remain stunted due to weak root system. Further, trees must get a balanced dose of fertilizers as per the need of the soil and the plant. Tissue and soil analysis should be a must before planting trees in the area.

Malgova seedlings

From where I can obtain malgova variety mango seedlings?

K. Mohan
Palakkad

You can obtain quality seedlings from any registered fruit nursery or from the government orchard in your district.
