Farm Queries

Green manure

Are there any leguminous plants, which could be used as green manures?

S. Alagiavanan
Coimbatore

Number of crops such as peas, glyrecidia and dhaincha can be used for green manuring. These plants have to be ploughed in the field when they are tender and before they start flowering.

Sapota fruiting

Our sapota tree, which is about 5 years old, has not started to bear fruits. Can you please let us know how to improve fruiting in the tree?

Thrilok
Chennai

If the variety is a hybrid one, then there should be ample flowering of the tree this year. Further at the time of flowering there should be ample moisture in the soil so that the tree does not suffer from drought. Proper fertilizer application should be done based on the soil nature. You may contact a recognised horticulturist in your area for guidance.
