Is Njalipuvan (Malayalam name) plantain variety available in Andhra Pradesh?

Prasanna Krishnaraj

Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh

Njalipoovan is a popular banana cultivar of Kerala. It is also known as Neypoovan, Elakkibale and Safed Velchi. It is not very popular in Andhra Pradesh. However it should be available in the gene bank at the Kovur centre of the All India Coordinated Research Project on Tropical Fruits. For details you can contact Dr. Rema Menon, Professor, Banana Research Station, Kerala Agricultural University, Kannara, Thrissur-680 652, Kerala, Phone: 0487- 2699087.
