FARM QUERY

Controlling euriophyid mite

Is there any organic method to control euriophyid mite?

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala

Mr. K.M. Chellamuthu, of Kodumudi village in Erode district, Tamil Nadu has developed a herbal spray for controlling euriophyid mites in coconut. About one kg of custard apple leaves, turmeric rhizome, Peenari changu (Clerodendrum inermi), Aloe vera, Nochi (Vitex negundo), neem kernel and Caloptropis each are ground into a paste by adding sufficient water and about 5 litres of juice is extracted. This is diluted with another 15 litres of water to make it into 20 litres. This herbal extract is sprayed into the crown region at the rate of 2 litres per palm after the nuts are harvested. The spray can be repeated once in two months. For more information the farmer can be contacted on phone: 04204-266127, mobile: 9486602389.
