FARM QUERIES

Simple method

Is there any simple, affordable method to conserve water during summer for my 10 coconut, 5mango and 5 jackfruit trees,

G.Gopalan Nair

Thrissur,

Dig circular trenches around each tree and bury coconut husks (fresh or dried) in them. You can irrigate the water on the buried husks. The husks are ideal for moisture retention. They act as a sponge and absorb the water and release it to the mango trees. You can also try to plant some aloe vera plants (3-4plants) near the trunk of the trees. The plants play the same role as coconut husks.
