FARM QUERIES

Tackling squirrel menace

Is there any simple method which can control squirrel menace in my guava orchard?

P. Meenakshi

Tamil Nadu

Squirrel and bird menace is a big problem in fruit trees. You can try tying empty metal tins, glass bottles and stones on some of the branches. When the branches sway the stones will hit the bottle and the empty tin creating a sound which will scare away the rodent.

You can also tie musical metal chimes available in the market on the trees. Their sound scares away the squirrels and birds. Tying s ome dark coloured stuffed toys resembling wild animals on the branches have also helped for some farmers.
