List of fake varsities

NEW DELHI, MAY 20.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released a list of
fake universities and advised students not to apply for or pursue
any courses in these universities.
These 18 self-styled universities, as per the records available
with the UGC, were apparently functioning in contravention of the
UGC Act. They have also been issuing advertisements in newspapers
for B.A., B.Com, B.Ed, M.Sc, MBA, LL.B and many other degrees.
The Commission has warned students against applying to them.
The following universities have been mentioned in the list:
Maithili University, Darbanga (Bihar); Mahila Gram Vidyapith,
Prayag, Allahabad (UP); Varanaseya Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya,
Varanasi(UP)/Jagatpura, Delhi; Commercial University Ltd., Darya
Ganj, Delhi; Indian Educational Council of U.P., Lucknow (UP);
Gandhi Hindi Vidyapith, Prayag, Allahabad (UP); National
University of Electro Complex Homoeopathy, Kanpur; Netaji Subhas
Chandra Bose Open University, Achaltal, Aligarh(UP); D.D.B.
Sanskrit University, Putur, Trichi (Tamil Nadu); St.John's
University, Kishanattam, Kerala; United Nations University,
Delhi; Vocational University, Delhi; Uttar Pradesh
Vishwavidyalaya, Kosi Kalan, Mathura (UP); Maharana Pratap
Shiksha Niketan Vishwavidyalaya, Pratapgarh (UP); Raja Arabic
Universty, Nagpur; Kesarwani Vidyapith, Jabalpur (MP); Delhi
Vishwa Vidyapith, Tagore Park, Delhi; Badaganvi Sarkar World Open
University Education Society, Gokak, Belgaum (Karnataka).
The degrees, diplomas and certificates awarded by these fake
institutions, the UGC said, would not be treated as valid for
academic and educational purposes. The UGC has also advised
students to check with the Commission before enrolling themselves
for any courses of higher education.
