 Hope seen for Fiji hostages
New hopes of an early negotiated release of Fiji's political hostages, including the deposed Prime Minister belonging to the minority ethnic Indian community, were raised today by the military rulers in Suva, capital of the small South Pacific state.

China not to sacrifice ties with Pakistan
China has indicated that it will not sacrifice its ``all-weather'' relationship with Pakistan while attempting to improve and develop Sino-Indian relations. ``The development and improvement of Sino-Indian relations will not have any adverse impact on the friendly relations and cooperation between China and Pakistan,'' a senior Chinese Foreign Ministry official said on Wednesday.

IA resumes service to Nepal
After a five-month-long suspension of its flights to Kathmandu following hijacking of IC-814 to Kandahar, the Indian Airlines (IA) resumed its service to Nepal today.

Monsoon sets in
The South-West Monsoon has set in over south Kerala and widespread rain was received during the past 24 hours. Conditions were favourable for the monsoon to advance into north Kerala and Lakshadweep.
