16 policemen hurt in attack
AURANGABAD, JULY 13. Sixteen police personnel were injured in a
mob attack when a police party went to take possession of a piece
of land following a court order, at Chikalthana here yesterday.
Among the injured the condition of a sub-inspector and a woman
constable is said to be critical, police today said.
According to the police, Viqarrunnisa Begum Razzaq Khan, a
resident of Nawabpura area here had two acres of land to the
north of the weekly Bazzar in Chikalthana. She had a dispute with
Shaikh Chhotu Shaikh Murad over the property. Viqarunnisa won the
case in the court.
Subsequently the court ordered the police to give possession of
the property to her.
When a team of 25 police personnel arrived at the spot, some
women, who were hiding in a hut nearby attacked them with lathis,
iron rods, kerosene cans and other weapons.
The police have so far arrested 16 persons including nine women
in this connection.
