 Vajpayee back in Delhi
The Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, returned here this evening from Mumbai where he underwent a knee- joint replacement surgery on October 10.

From Mumbai with love
The Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, left the Breach Candy Hospital here for New Delhi today with the hope that he would be able to move about and work normally in the next few days. He was lavish in praise of his doctors and the staff who took care of him during his 13-day hospitalisation for replacement of a knee joint.

BJP stakes claim to form Govt. in Goa
In the ongoing political crisis in Goa, the Bharatiya Janata Party has walked out of the 11-month-old ruling coalition and staked its claim to form a new government today even as the Chief Minister, Mr. Francisco Sardinha, refused to resign saying he would prove his majority on the floor of the State Assembly.

Advani, Fernandes in Kashmir
The Union Home Minister, Mr. L.K. Advani, and the Defence Minister, Mr. George Fernandes, arrived here today to take stock of the security arrangements in Kashmir, along the Line of Control (LoC) and the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Arab summit flays Israel, but for continuing talks
Arab leaders concluded their emergency summit in Cairo today with a strong condemnation of Israel for the ongoing violence but also called for the continuance of West Asian negotiations.

Nedumaran clarifies
The Tamilar Desiya Iyakkam president, Mr. P. Nedumaran, today clarified that he had not told the Karnataka film delegation which called on him yesterday that the abducted film actor, Mr. Rajkumar would be released before Deepavali.

Tremors again in Bhavnagar
After a month and a half, the coastal town of Bhavnagar in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat was once again hit by a series of tremors on Sunday night.

Norms relaxed
The Government today relaxed certain procurement norms in Haryana to mop up more paddy from the market at the minimum support price fixed for the winter season. The FCI and other Government agencies would be procuring paddy with damaged, discoloured, sprouted and weeviled grains up to a maximum limit of eight per cent as against the previous limit of three per cent from today.

Inflation declines
The annual inflation rate fell marginally by 0.53 percentage points to 7.03 per cent in the week ended October 7, despite the continuing rise in fuel and primary articles' prices.

17 die in hooch tragedy
Seventeen persons, including a woman, lost their lives in two different areas of Kollam district after consuming hooch. While the killer brew claimed the lives of 12 persons at Kalluvathukkal, five persons lost their lives at Kottarakara.
