Governors for three new States

NEW DELHI, OCT. 30. Mr. Surjit Singh Barnala, senior Akali Dal leader and former Union Minister, was today appointed the Governor of Uttaranchal.

Mr. Prabhat Kumar, who is retiring as Cabinet Secretary tomorrow, was named the Governor of Jharkhand while Mr. Dinesh Nandan Sahaya, a former Indian Police Service officer, was appointed the Governor of Chattisgarh.

According to a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique, the appointments would be effective from the date they assume charge of their respective offices.

With the announcement of the gubernatorial appointments, the stage is set for fine-tuning the administrative details. While Chattisgarh will come into being on November 1, Uttaranchal and Jharkhand will come into existence on November 9 and 15.
