Bail for five in Harpreet case

PATIALA (PUNJAB), JAN. 3. A court here today granted bail to five of the seven accused in the mysterious death of Harpreet Kaur, daughter of former SGPC chief Bibi Jagir Kaur.

The Special CBI Magistrate, Mr. Jaspinder Singh Heyer, granted bail on the application of the defence counsel, who stated that the agency had failed to file the chargesheet against the accused within the stipulated period of 90 days. Satya Devi, Sanjeev Kumar and Harvinder Kumar, servants in the Jasdil Mansion at Phagwara where Harpreet allegedly spent her last few days, were granted bail along with the mansion owner, Dalwinder Kaur and her brother-in-law Paramjit Singh.

The Magistrate asked the five accused to furnish a bond of Rs. 50,000 as surety.

The court extended the remand of the sixth accused Nishan Singh, personal security officer of Bibi Jagir Kaur, to January 19.

The seventh accused in the case, Bibi Jagir Kaur, mother of the deceased, is on anticipatory bail, granted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
